Ep. 76 - Suits, Sneakers, and $900K for Cancer
Ever wondered what happens when you mix high fashion, premium bourbon, and fighting cancer? The Suits and Sneakers charity event delivers a uniquely exhilarating experience that's changing the fundraising landscape in Northwest Arkansas.
This fifth annual celebration, scheduled for Friday, October 17th at the Fayetteville Town Center, brings together bourbon enthusiasts, sneakerheads, and philanthropists for an unforgettable night of giving. As Lisa Bores of Sazerac and Catherine Tapp from the American Cancer Society share with the B-Team crew, this year's theme, "Cheers to Five Years", promises a birthday party atmosphere on a grand scale, complete with new surprises that build on the event's stellar reputation.
Bourbon takes center stage thanks to Sazerac's exceptional offerings. This year's whiskey pool allows attendees to enjoy unlimited pours of allocated bourbon throughout the evening, take home a commemorative glass, and receive a surprise bottle, all for a $100 contribution. The signature auction will feature an exclusive Eagle Rare barrel experience, following last year's Buffalo Trace barrel that raised an impressive $30,000.
What truly sets Suits and Sneakers apart is its fashion component. "Sneaker police" roam the event, issuing "citations" to guests with exceptional footwear, directing them to a sneaker stage for recognition. Categories include most innovative, most spirited, and most sparkly, with winners receiving coveted prizes. The event has even spawned a thriving custom sneaker industry in Northwest Arkansas, with artists creating one-of-a-kind designs specifically for the occasion.
Beyond the bourbon and fashion, entertainment abounds with a human slot machine featuring Buzz Balls, a fashion show showcasing cancer survivors alongside athletes, and Buffalo Trace root beer floats during the dance party. All proceeds support the American Cancer Society's critical mission of funding cancer research and providing essential services like transportation and lodging for patients.
Don't miss your chance to participate in this extraordinary event where doing good feels this good. Tickets and sponsorships are available now at suitsandsneakersAR.com. Secure yours before they're gone!
Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I am your host, josh Saffron, with my co-host, matt Morris and our permanent guest, rob Nelson. We're here every week to talk to you about all things Bentonville, bourbon and business the B-Team Podcast Be here. Welcome to the B-Team Podcast. I'm your host, josh Safran, with our permanent guest Permanent.
Speaker 2:Bobby Permanent for today he's got one name.
Speaker 1:He's like Pele or Madonna. Bobby, bobby, just Bobby, and our co-host, matt Morris. You didn't even go with Matthew, right? No, you're appropriate, even go with.
Speaker 4:Matthew, right, no, you're appropriate. That's only when I'm in trouble.
Speaker 1:Yes, which there's been a lot of Matthew texts lately, because typically being here on time is an important part of the show.
Speaker 2:It is that's why I was on time. I was actually there like 15 minutes.
Speaker 1:You were after Lisa, you were the second or third person or fourth person, catherine, you were here as well.
Speaker 2:You and I were both sitting in the parking lot at the same time, but you didn't actually make an appearance inside.
Speaker 1:That's when it counts, no.
Speaker 2:If I'm in the parking lot, I'm on time. Is that how it works, I guess.
Speaker 4:That's not how it works for you today. No, I was in the parking lot too.
Speaker 1:That's what I was doing. I was teetering off. You've been here since 11 o'clock. Yeah, I got here an hour ago, we're giving you a softball there. We're here all Thursdays for all things Bentonville, business and bourbon and we tend to do this time of year a lot of charitable things. We all like to give back and we have some of our favorite charities, and one of my personal favorite charities is Suits and Sneakers, which both of you have not yet had the opportunity to attend.
Speaker 2:No, shame on you guys. I mean, you never know, maybe this is the year, maybe.
Speaker 1:Are you going to go Well?
Speaker 2:last time we were out of town and we couldn't. But you're always out of town. I mean, I'm trying to be better. That's good. We just have to get the date down early.
Speaker 1:This is a feedback-rich environment, Kevin. What I suggest for 2026 is to check with Matt first and get the date.
Speaker 4:And then back to you.
Speaker 3:I know I'm skipping ahead but what is the date? Friday, October 17th. We have some time. Are you out of town?
Speaker 2:That's football season, but it's a Friday.
Speaker 3:It's the Friday before the Texas the home game, so everyone should be in town. Okay, there's no excuses. Well, no, no, no, no no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1:Matthew has two daughters in college and Matthew has decided that he needs to have football tickets for BYU and Ole Miss, so we won't see Matt between September and January on the weekend, and we may, yeah it might not be a bad thing.
Speaker 4:We may have a tent in the Grove. No, it's hard to miss those. The Grove is fun.
Speaker 2:Nice.
Speaker 1:Who's been invited to that Say aye.
Speaker 2:Everyone, everyone can come whenever you want, and the Hogs are playing there this year.
Speaker 1:Oh, okay, what's the date for that? I don't know Not front and back.
Speaker 2:Now it's Texas time, yeah.
Speaker 1:Well anyway. So Suits and Sneakers, catherine, you were here last year. We had a lot of fun, loved it, and this year big surprise to the boys we're bringing one of our favorite people in Lisa Yay, lisa, team Sazerac.
Speaker 4:Yes.
Speaker 1:So why are you here and how are you helping the event?
Speaker 4:Yes, so, similar to you, suits and Sneakers is one of my favorite events With working at Sazerac. We love to give back within the community and this is one that we've got involved with Dipped our toe in two years ago, really showed up big last year and just loved it, and we're going to do it again. So we're going to make sure that we have the bourbon bar back. We're going to do another silent auction item with an Eagle Rare barrel and Buffalo Trace experience, so we have some Eagle Rare that we will taste today.
Speaker 1:Well, the reason I went to you first is because Matt's thirsty and Matt wants to, oh, I've been eyeing it.
Speaker 2:Yes, and this is one of your favorites too.
Speaker 1:no, I love Eagle Rare Yep. So if you'd like to, all lisa's talking. We want to, otherwise I want to write to katherine.
Speaker 4:We talked about the event but we went right for the bourbon you gotta go bourbon first the most important thing. That's right, exactly. Yeah, and last year we had um a fire dancer with fireball. Yeah, and this year we just talked about this earlier this week we're actually going to have Buzz Balls, a human slot machine.
Speaker 1:What.
Speaker 4:Yeah, oh, yes, you heard me.
Speaker 1:A human slot machine.
Speaker 4:If you want, you could actually be one of the people that do it.
Speaker 1:I was going to ask because Rob and I wanted to know We've got three perfect people. Matt's out of town, rob and I wanted to know yeah, carry on. Well, out of town, rob, and I wanted to know. Yeah, well, well, I looked at the date? I don't know that's a tough one. That sounds like something that rob would love to do.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think you'd be a good slot guy. Yeah, yeah, I could be.
Speaker 4:Yeah, they do a little like going like this and then when the person says stop, each person then picks up a buzz ball, and if they pick all three the same color, then you hit jackpot and you get a biggie.
Speaker 1:Oh, that's pretty cool, a biggie.
Speaker 4:Ball A buzz ball A biggie, a biggie buzz ball A 1.75 liter buzz ball oh my gosh.
Speaker 2:The one that sends you to the spirit world.
Speaker 3:Yes.
Speaker 2:It does. Cheers to the spirit world.
Speaker 1:It does Cheers, cheers, just the spirit world.
Speaker 3:Cheers, cheers.
Speaker 2:Cheers, cheers, cheers, cheers. I just saw the 175 buzz balls the other day. I didn't even know you, I had only seen the little ones.
Speaker 1:Did you walk right past them or did you pick a couple up?
Speaker 2:Well, we were actually in Florida and I was like this would be kind of fun on the boat.
Speaker 1:So, did you pick some up, or did you ask at least to ship you a?
Speaker 2:couple of cases. Well, I mean, that's what I should have done.
Speaker 1:That's what I was expecting that you would have done.
Speaker 4:We did have some of the biggies last year we did.
Speaker 3:For any live auction winner, we carried out a bottle of lit-up buzz balls with glasses to each table. Whoever won a live auction item.
Speaker 4:She means like, not just like lit up, like sparkler.
Speaker 2:Like you're in a club Like Las Vegas and Miami, but inside of a biggie.
Speaker 3:Yes, and it was really cool and experiential and very VIP, with Biggie Smalls playing in the background.
Speaker 4:Obviously, obviously, biggie, biggie.
Speaker 3:Biggie can't you see, yeah, there we go.
Speaker 1:You guys got to change your plans. If you have plans on the 17th, yeah sounds like it, it's very fun. Catherine. So last year when you were here we were talking about it had originally been done with Coach Moss and his wife, and then last year you were morphing it Coach Cal you weren't sure at the time and he ended up coming and then you expanded it to all coaches. What's the plan for this year?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So this year that was such a big hit. We had so much feedback from the coaches. We invited every head coach and assistant coach from U of A to be a part of it, to be a part of all coaches' one cause, because it's taken all of us to fight cancer together and because it's taken all of us to fight cancer together, and so we had some great turnout from athletes and all the coaches. And Coach Cal came in his debut and had a great time at Suits and Sneakers brought. The entire team had some really great remarks from the stage, and so we're expecting some of the same coaches to come back and they've already been saving the day, and some of the wives are involved in the committee, and so it's really exciting so we had to pivot.
Speaker 3:You know when. When must decided to head out to LA, to La La Land. Then we decided we just need to make sure we we kept going, because you know it doesn't. It doesn't matter who the coach is when it comes to cancer and fighting cancer, and it doesn't matter who we're playing. We're're our rival, our opponent is cancer, and so that's how we did it. So all coaches, one cause everyone's invited. It's on everyone's calendars. We've already had some great feedback, and so we'll see who's coming back. This is our fifth year event.
Speaker 3:So we're having a fifth year birthday party and the theme is cheers to five years.
Speaker 4:Cheers A birthday celebration.
Speaker 3:A birthday celebration of progress and promise, and so think, birthday party, but elevated on a grand scale.
Speaker 1:Birthday party. Yes, so it's going to be a huge celebration.
Speaker 3:We've got some great things lined up, yeah.
Speaker 2:Josh will jump out of the birthday cake for you.
Speaker 3:Right, oh gosh.
Speaker 4:I'm going to be doing the slots.
Speaker 3:That's going to be better for the birthday cake cake, right, oh god.
Speaker 4:I'm gonna be doing the slots for you. Yeah, fully clothed for you. I mean that's my birthday suit.
Speaker 2:Nobody will come back. Paid for college, so now. So now, what is the? Isn't there a prize for the best shoes?
Speaker 3:Yes.
Speaker 2:Because I think I might have.
Speaker 1:Whoa. Oh Well, we're going to have to do a rating of the shoes today. Look at you.
Speaker 2:I have a feeling this could go top ten. No what are those shoes. You've got to be present to participate, though I may send the shoe by proxy.
Speaker 3:I don't know if it works that way. I may send the shoe by proxy. We're going to try to make it though. Contest by proxy. Those are nice.
Speaker 2:These are my trout shoes here. It's a brown trout.
Speaker 4:I like it. Can you take that off your foot right now?
Speaker 2:Well, they're new, so they don't stink. Did you catch a whiff?
Speaker 4:Questionable things happening over here.
Speaker 1:You chose the wrong side of the table. I had no option. Rob's going to keep his pants on. He's going to show his shoes, though what do you got? What are you wearing, shoe-wise, right now?
Speaker 2:Oh, I just have a pair of white Nikes on with a yellow swoosh. Nothing too. A yellow swoosh Orange, I'm going to help you out.
Speaker 1:You want to show your foot up. Can you get your foot up?
Speaker 4:that high. Oh there we go.
Speaker 2:I like the neon those are nice.
Speaker 3:I like the neon. We can see you in the dark.
Speaker 1:Now, because it's special now. I never win. I tell you every year here, I'm sorry, I say, listen, I want to come down and I want to win a prize. Okay, and I don't make the cut Now. These.
Speaker 3:Let me see Okay.
Speaker 1:Now, oh, these Kobe 8.
Speaker 4:Those I was collecting shoes Are vintage.
Speaker 1:Back when.
Speaker 4:Lisa Was in grade school. Like that's how far back I've been collecting shoes 2008.
Speaker 2:Are you sure you can get those At the Goodwill or something these?
Speaker 4:are I mean?
Speaker 2:these aren't those even aren't they? Aren't on the same level as this, I mean.
Speaker 3:Look at this here. Alright, we gotta see the master of the.
Speaker 2:Yes, lisa's gonna to win the best shirt. I know she's going to slay.
Speaker 4:I have some help from our friend Clint.
Speaker 1:Shout out to Clint.
Speaker 4:Yes, saw his podcast the other day. Some nice buffalo trace painted.
Speaker 2:Ooh.
Speaker 4:Yeah, those are next level, yeah.
Speaker 2:Those are cool.
Speaker 1:Those are amazing.
Speaker 4:Oh yeah.
Speaker 1:Those are so awesome so awesome, and you have a pair of Eagle Rare ones too, right I do. Those were on display last year.
Speaker 3:Right, those were on the bar.
Speaker 4:I think I actually. No, these were on the bar last year. You wore the Eagle Rare.
Speaker 3:Yes, so what you won?
Speaker 2:last year, like what did it take to win it?
Speaker 3:Yes, Well, we have five categories. One and the sixth one is best overall. We will be revealing the categories online on social media so you can start preparing for your favorite category.
Speaker 2:An example of one is most innovative. Another one is most spirited, like Razorback or Conjure.
Speaker 4:Another one is most sparkly, but we will be revealing the categories. You're not going to qualify for any of those, so you can start. I think it's all of them Sparkly, like it's sparkly. You can start looking for that now.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that's going to be good, but that's going to be where we'll have the sneaker stage back. So during the reception, during the VIP party and the initial reception, we have a sneaker squad, fashion police that are going around during people's reception and if you get a citation for having the flyest sneakers, you're going to have to report back to the sneaker stage for your mugshot with your sneaker, and Cityscapes magazine is in charge of all of that and are going to be working on getting your photos made. And then they have a team of people that are going to be deciding who wins best overall and there's prizes for both, for all five, all six categories.
Speaker 1:I'm really going to have to dig in the closet and find something to show.
Speaker 2:Yeah, did you even make it into the competition or no?
Speaker 3:Did you get a citation at least? No, no, it was like thanks for coming.
Speaker 1:Give me your credit card to buy some auction items, and your shoes suck, but make sure you come in, see, I think.
Speaker 2:Where you're missing, though, is you're a huge sneaker guy and not everyone understands what you're wearing.
Speaker 4:So I think you've got to just sneakers and like put some sparkles on there, some food color, like it wasn't super flashy people had like ribbons and bows, and I'm not all about that, right, right, nobody gets this?
Speaker 2:yeah, exactly, and that's why you're not winning, so you're gonna have to change your game I'm gonna have to think it out, yeah, well, the like give a pair to your kids and just tell them make them cool, and then you'll win and it you know you have to elevate your sneaker game.
Speaker 3:Everyone's already you know planning what their sneakers are. They usually buy their sneaker before their outfit and they plan their whole look around it, so it's all about the sneaker, but you know what? There are a lot of great sneaker artists around town.
Speaker 3:Now that's become a really big thing yes suits and sneakers has put that on the map and has really helped elevate some of these great artists around town, and their business is booming because of it. So I can get you hooked up on a if you need an artist for that I think you need to get a some b team podcast once made oh well, definitely that would probably, like you know, it could be most original.
Speaker 2:I just want a citation.
Speaker 1:I don't even need to win, what would it?
Speaker 2:how much of a donation do we have to give just to get him a citation? Like you can just have him act like they're taking pictures of him.
Speaker 3:Money does talk. We're open to that negotiation.
Speaker 1:Rob and I would probably do that. Well, Rob would do that. You would go, Rob, into doing it, but Rob would actually do it.
Speaker 2:Matt will be like I'll Venmo you.
Speaker 1:He's probably like eight grand in Venmo that he owes you at the point. Probably we're waiting for it to get turned back on. Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, my Venmo's shut down.
Speaker 1:You don't have it.
Speaker 2:That's another day, another podcast, right.
Speaker 3:But we do have a lot of our sponsors. They do now have branded sneakers that they're having made, so their whole group can look branded and rep their brand. It's really cool, tito's does that.
Speaker 1:Cartie has done that Different people.
Speaker 3:It's really neat. Is Clint still involved? He's on my list to call. He didn't get a chance to go last year, but he's just so busy like everyone.
Speaker 1:Clint. Pay attention. I know We'd love to have him back. Clint, we need you back. He's great.
Speaker 3:Yeah, he's a big component of the sneaker world. For sure he did, and from us and everybody.
Speaker 1:So, speaking of sponsorships, are you still actively looking for folks?
Speaker 3:We are, we do have some tables and sponsorship levels left and tickets are on sale now at suitsandsneakersarcom. We'll put that in the show notes. Perfect, We'll do that. But yes, we have some great different opportunities available and there's still room. Get them before they go.
Speaker 1:And is it individual, is it VIP? Are there tables? Yes, we have a variety.
Speaker 3:We have individual tickets, general admission and then VIP tickets, and then the different levels of tables and sponsorship levels.
Speaker 1:I mean, the Mars Family Foundation should probably put together a. We would love that as we go.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I was thinking like to kind of celebrate the new Gents location. We could have a table down there that we could all go to.
Speaker 1:The Gents has done sponsorships the last three years.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you're one of the originals, the OGs.
Speaker 2:Robin, I never got one of the tickets to the table. It's so weird.
Speaker 3:Yeah, we do still have availability.
Speaker 2:How many people are you shooting for this year for attendance?
Speaker 3:About 550, 500.
Speaker 2:Oh wow, that's a big event.
Speaker 3:Well, not as big as some of the mega galas that are around here, but we try to keep it kind of exclusive and bougie, just so people feel the excitement and they can see across the ballroom. They can say, oh well, there's so-and-so, let's go talk. So yeah, we just try to keep it. Plus, it's at the Fayetteville Town Center, so we're limited to our space. What I like about this?
Speaker 1:event and this is not to slander any other events in town, but this is you show up, you're wearing cool sneakers and everybody's in a jacket and slacks, and then you're walking the whole time. You're networking. You're popping over to this station for a drink, you're popping over here for a drink, there's a DJ, there's something going on. It's just not stuffy at all, it's just sort of you're just bopping around the whole event, eating, drinking, hanging out and bidding on things. So it's just, you guys have made it fun. Thank you.
Speaker 1:Some of the events are great to raise money, but they may not be fun. This is just a good event to be at.
Speaker 3:That makes me feel good. And Lisa's part of the committee, planning committee, not only as a donor and sponsor and product donor, but also part of the committee and she's been bringing so many great ideas to the table. And we have a great committee, great sponsors, Our National Championship title sponsor, Associated Advisors again they've come back to the table on that. We've got Tito's coming back, of course, Sazerac in a huge way, Cherokee Casino we have so many great sponsors.
Speaker 2:That's huge Blake.
Speaker 3:Mintz is back and involved in a big way.
Speaker 1:Shout out to Ben.
Speaker 3:I know we like that. We do love that who doesn't?
Speaker 1:I know what does he do. Doesn't he do like the mystery box we're doing?
Speaker 3:mystery boxes and they're doing some other fun special things this year too. The fifth year is going to be kind of flipped back on the head of all things the past four years, we years. So we're going to bring some of our favorites back, bring some new things back.
Speaker 4:For example, one of our new things we're going to do this year with Sazerac are the Buffalo Trace root beer floats when the dance party starts.
Speaker 3:We've got some really cool fun culinary and product items that we're doing. Dj Derek's coming back. He came I know he's awesome, dj Williams, so we've got John Williams. Your former guest, John Williams, is coming back to MC. So, we're excited about it, Bobby why don't you donate a Rolex?
Speaker 2:What do you think that's in Ben's department, not Rob's?
Speaker 1:Wrong company. Sorry, we've got Hershey's coming back.
Speaker 3:It is suits and sneakers.
Speaker 2:If anyone should be donating something, it should be some of your Nike collection.
Speaker 1:Clearly, my sneakers were not cool enough. Matt and Lisa put them on. They didn't make the cut.
Speaker 2:They didn't make the cut you might have to dig deep in that closet to go find one of those $5,000 pairs Emily would love that Maybe you should auction some of them off out of there.
Speaker 1:An autograph Josh Safran.
Speaker 2:B-Team podcast.
Speaker 1:Pair of shoes, there you go, you go, for $7.
Speaker 2:Or just the shoes. I was thinking, yeah, they might pay more without the autograph. I'm taking the value down. That's so funny.
Speaker 1:How much money are you looking to raise? What did you raise last year? I know the number gets bigger every year.
Speaker 3:Yeah, we've increased every year, which is exciting. We're hoping to reach probably $800,000 to $900,000 is exciting. We're hoping to reach, you know, probably eight to 900,000 this year. It's just grown every year.
Speaker 2:It's crazy.
Speaker 3:The first year we didn't know what we were doing coming out of COVID because we didn't know what we were going to have you know with that. So we, when we exceeded our expectations on year one in 2021. So each year it's just grown, you know, little by little, and actually kind of a lot by a lot.
Speaker 3:And it's just kind of created a monster, a sneaker monster, I guess. But it's all for a great cause. Everyone's been impacted by cancer and I don't know if you know this, but every 15 seconds someone is diagnosed with cancer.
Speaker 3:And so, since we've been sitting here, there's going to be many, many people diagnosed since this podcast airs. So that's why we're here. We're trying to do that. How am I going to get to my cancer treatment? And so that's where the night of event funding that we raise there is for access to care, transportation and lodging grants.
Speaker 1:If they're trying to raise $900 and you just write a check for $100, that puts them at a million.
Speaker 4:Yeah, come on. Let's do it.
Speaker 2:So where do the funds?
Speaker 4:go to Just don't drop it.
Speaker 2:Is there a specific like you raised, say $800,000. Where do those funds?
Speaker 3:get. Yes, that's a great question. Good question, Bobby.
Speaker 2:Yeah we. He brings the bangers, I know right.
Speaker 1:That's why we need him here more often.
Speaker 3:He's like the Oprah of the B team right the Oprah of the B team oh wow, that's a t-shirt.
Speaker 1:There you go. He's trying to figure what's the discount code Right exactly.
Speaker 3:Well, a lot of people don't know this, but we are the largest funder of cancer research outside of the federal government and now even we're needed now even more so than ever this now that with some of the cuts that are happening. So a lot of it is going to cancer research and then a lot of it is going to the access to care, lodging and transportation grants for cancer patients in our state and community. Just last year we gave over 23,000 rides to and from treatment just in Arkansas from Courses and.
Speaker 3:Sneakers and some of our other initiatives, and we also provided about 7,000 room nights for patients and their caregivers just in Arkansas alone.
Speaker 3:That's amazing we try our best to help patients, meet them where they are, get them where they need to be and then also move in the needle in cancer research. But Cancer Society is the one that created, through our research, the mammogram, the pap smear test. We're the ones that established the link between lung cancer and smoking. So all research is really full front of all things and we have the best researchers in the country that we're funding. So we have 54 Nobel laureates that have received the top honor. It's like the Academy Award of.
Speaker 3:Research. So it's pretty amazing and we are very proud of how we raise our funds, but how we spend them too, they're very scrutinized. We are very diligent of where our dollars go and we keep it very low cost per dollar raise.
Speaker 1:And this is, I know it's American Cancer Society Suits and Sneakers. It's not just an Arkansas-based event, right, it's something that's done throughout the country.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so it's under the umbrella of Coaches vs Cancer, which was created about 30-ish years ago by Norm Stewart. Like the OGs of basketball Mizzou, richardson's, all of them and Norm he's like the godfather of Coaches vs Cancer. And so across the country, people do, every state does something different. Susan's art event is probably one of the most unique in the country of ACS American Cancer Society. Some people do like Lon Krueger does a really fabulous golf tournament in Vegas and he brings all these famous celebs to play golf and all these coaches and Las Vegas Classic People do golf tournaments, they do galas, all kinds of different things, but our suits and sneakers is one that stands out and in fact, we have people from across the country, colleagues of ours, coming in to train on how to do it and what it looks like to put on an event like this. Not bad, huh? Yeah, that's a lot of work 500 people.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it is, but it's exciting. We couldn't do it without our sponsors, partners, vendors. We have great vendors and donors.
Speaker 1:Can you share too? Because typically, if I remember correctly, a lot of food vendors show up and people are highlighting their different stations for the different restaurants.
Speaker 3:Well, there are organizations that do that. Ours is just a really cool sit down. We have a sit down dinner moment.
Speaker 1:Did it used to be that?
Speaker 3:No, we just have great past hors d'oeuvres and fun. So it feels like that because we have food coming in and out.
Speaker 1:Clearly I was drunk, that's okay, have you ever been there.
Speaker 2:Clearly I was drunk, that's okay. Have you ever?
Speaker 1:been there. Clearly I was drunk last year. No, you're fine. You go to a lot of things we're known probably for Shout out to the other thing I went to yeah.
Speaker 3:Didn't leave much of a mark with us. That's okay. We're most known probably for our signature bar and how that is created in the room.
Speaker 4:That's what I meant yeah.
Speaker 3:That's where you were, and this year we're bringing back the fashion show. So many people wanted that back. That was fun, and so we're bringing that back.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we're excited about that. Will Hubbard be involved this year? Oh yeah, oh, shout out to Donnie Hubbard, yes.
Speaker 3:Hubbard's involved. So this year, in addition to the female cancer survivors, we're going to bring in male cancer survivors. It doesn't matter what kind of cancer, what have you, but Donnie is going to be outfitting and dressing the male cancer survivors and some of the athletes there's going to be. Some of the athletes are going to be walking the runway too, and there's going to be the custom inserts in their jackets.
Speaker 1:He's already planning some things. Oh, that's cool.
Speaker 3:And then Stephanie with violets will be outfitting the female cancer survivors. Another cool thing about Hubbard Donnie is bringing in. I don't know if you know this but he has his own sneaker line that you can order through Hubbard's and we're going to have and details to follow. We're going to have a cool VIP night at Hubbard Clothing where you can design and get fitted and all the things, and they get sent off to Spain. Come back within 30 days and you have your famous fabulous custom sneakers.
Speaker 1:Size 13 Hubbard shoes that's good. So, hubbard, he's going to be involved in a big way All over it. We're excited about that. That's good. That's going to be a new and he's got a lot of personal.
Speaker 3:His mom passed and he does a lot in the cancer space in the last couple years, On top of his generosity.
Speaker 1:previous like he's really morphed into being active no-transcript. I was going to say you may want to pretend that you're one of the coaches and come in there and get sued for a jacket. Yeah, exactly, and the assistant. Assistant to the assistant trainer. Matt.
Speaker 2:Mars is coming to Canada. Sap, it's going to come in. We're going to do something we've never done before. That's hilarious.
Speaker 4:That would at least be believable, though.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it would. That would be believable. So October. One more time on the date Friday night, october 17th.
Speaker 3:We have sponsorships available.
Speaker 2:It doesn't say the date on here, does it? Yeah, it does it should. I noticed that after I asked when it was. It's our fifth birthday.
Speaker 1:Fifth birthday, yeah.
Speaker 3:Fifth birthday party and we're excited about that. We're going to have the auction. Items that are coming in are amazing. We keep that very minimal for the live auction because they're so unique and exclusive. That charity barrel with Eagle Rare Talk about that and how you did that for last year and what it did, oh, last year.
Speaker 4:Yeah, last year was really cool. So last year we had a barrel of Buffalo Trace that we were able to auction off within the silent auction and ended up raising $30,000. And not only do they get the entire barrel but they actually get to go and have it as a Buffalo Trace experience where they go hand select. Usually with those barrel picks you get four different uh samples that come from different warehouses or different locations within the warehouse. You get a sample them and then you get a pick which one is the one that you like the best and then they will be able to kind of get that. It's usually about, I believe, 220 uh bottles that come from that barrel. They'll be able to take all of those homes. They can create special medallions for it. Just a really, really unique experience. And this year we're doing Eagle Rare.
Speaker 1:Next year you may have to do a Pappy.
Speaker 3:Can you imagine?
Speaker 4:You would ask for something like that.
Speaker 2:So is it the 10 or the 12 year?
Speaker 4:It'll be the 10 year, the 12 year. I did just see the 12 year out in the wild, though. Yeah.
Speaker 1:Out in the wild. Saw it in a store.
Speaker 4:Well, I mean not like that wild. It was a contained wild, okay, At a prior meeting.
Speaker 2:Matt's probably got two cases at his house. We're going to have have some tonight.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah Tonight. Oh yeah, Shout out to Mike Hodges. Yeah, it's so weird.
Speaker 2:I wasn't invited to whatever you guys are doing tonight. Well, you are now.
Speaker 4:Okay, well, you know what you're doing.
Speaker 1:Just got to write a check.
Speaker 4:Just got to come to some of these events Like this hey right.
Speaker 2:Apparently, you start getting invited to things, the B-Team podcast, and now you know we have the in. Even though we're out, we have the in yeah, exactly yeah.
Speaker 3:Blakeman's will be doing a big live auction item, and then a new one for us is Starwood Customs. Starwood Customs they're providing a really cool package for your truck, like a souped up package for a car vehicle.
Speaker 4:whatever with the Chandlers Morgan and Chris Chandlers are doing that.
Speaker 3:So that's going to be neat and a really cool addition this year when we have some other things coming up too.
Speaker 1:I mean I think you should auction off a time on the B-Team podcast. I mean that would get Matt and Rob and I to come down for free without having to pay for tickets. I mean, now we're trying to figure out ways to get in there. You go, because you figure what's the ticket cost. The general is 500 and then vip. So think so, if we saved you fifteen hundred dollars on our tickets but then we raised two hundred dollars total for our auction item, you're down thirteen hundred wait I don't know what that math is not math.
Speaker 4:It didn't work.
Speaker 1:That's not bad but that's the way that math would probably work if you'd have an exclusive that's uh, josh fuzzy, yeah, yeah we're trying to raise money, not kick money back. I know, because we would probably get $200 to be here.
Speaker 4:You never know, you never know.
Speaker 3:It's fun to be here. Yeah, you love being here.
Speaker 1:You hit me up. You said can we get back on?
Speaker 3:Hey, we don't play when it comes to fighting cancer, do we? Nope, we need all the help we can get. We're trending, it's.
Speaker 1:Rogan, it's the Kelsey's and then it's us.
Speaker 3:The.
Speaker 1:Kelsey's. I think we're up to 120 fans now.
Speaker 2:That's a stretch. I think that's some fuzzy math you're doing.
Speaker 1:A lot of fuzzy math.
Speaker 3:Oh, the sneaker cam's coming back post-consumer brand. They're sponsoring that so that you'll see the sneaker cam running around wheeling around. So they'll be doing that and that is actually on our website. You can see the production of that, the video from last year's.
Speaker 1:Alright, I'm going to redeem myself. What do you call the people that are there that are like pretending that they're statues, like they're posing, and then?
Speaker 3:you go oh yeah, that was at your event, right. Oh yeah, all right. Right, you got the right event this time. Okay, are they going to be back? Year one, we had them. They were all gold. Yeah, we had our statues. Just wait and see what's coming this year.
Speaker 4:You did have one, though, on the red carpet last year. Yeah, that's the other thing. That's really neat inside. Oh, it's outside, yeah.
Speaker 3:The red carpet leading up to the event is like a whole event in itself. Really cool. It's so fun. You get presented with chilled fireball upon arrival.
Speaker 2:That's the way to get the party going.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, we have valet service for guests Is Rob on your committee. Nobody needs to be.
Speaker 2:We were on vacation once and I had a wing down and I go to the bathroom and I come back and there's two things of fireball sitting in my seat and Rob's like we're at a turning point here, matt. I knew I liked you he's like we can drink these and keep having fun, or we can go back to the hotel and I was like, okay, let's do it, so you went back to the hotel. Let's keep going.
Speaker 1:Turned into a later night. Is that the driving the car back night from Austin, or that's a whole different thing.
Speaker 2:That's a whole different thing. Yeah, that was another time. Pretty much any time with him bad decisions when Matt and I go out, it's yeah, we have a good time.
Speaker 1:So we have to make sure that you guys go out to this event, because this event is a great time.
Speaker 2:We'll. We have a good time, so we have to make sure that you guys go out to this event, because this event is a great time. We'll try. We'll try October 17th.
Speaker 1:We'd love to be there we have a car service down. Are you guys still doing the partnership with the hotel?
Speaker 3:Well, we don't have a room block because it's game weekend, so they let us do it.
Speaker 1:Why don't you use your Airbnb down there, if I have one down there, I?
Speaker 3:was going to say that would be awesome.
Speaker 4:Making things up again.
Speaker 2:More Josh talk over there.
Speaker 3:It is at the Fayetteville Town Center.
Speaker 2:Which is awesome, yeah, the location is great.
Speaker 3:Well, it's far down there.
Speaker 1:It is at the Fayetteville Town Center, which is awesome. Yeah, the location's great and everyone. Well, it's far down there, it's not really that bad and everybody does a car service back and forth.
Speaker 3:Yeah, see a little pregame in the car. Yeah, party bus.
Speaker 1:Postgame on the way home or go. Yeah, or we go to Cherokee limousine and we'll all just jump in, go back to the casino and keep the party going.
Speaker 4:Feels like no bad decisions will be made there, or y'all could just say help me strike the event at 1130.
Speaker 3:You're like no thanks, but that's what I get to do afterwards.
Speaker 1:So do you have your outfit already picked out?
Speaker 3:I do, I have it. It's hanging in my closet. I got it. I'm finally early this year. I'm usually like the day before.
Speaker 1:Lisa, because I'm busy playing. Do you have your outfit picked out? I do not, you do not.
Speaker 4:Barely even got here.
Speaker 2:One day it's going to be out.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it's to accept on us.
Speaker 3:It will happen.
Speaker 4:We'll just figure it out and it'll be great, she'll be there looking fabulous, although I'm thinking about my shoes and my outfit, but I'm also thinking about my earrings, because, oh yeah, look at those oh, look at that, my sneakers.
Speaker 1:Look at these oh, carrie would be all about this I mean those sneakers have a better chance to win than mine? Do I mean they're?
Speaker 3:not sparkle here, so I think year two I I bought myself a pair and I sent Danielle home with some, and so she wears them too sometimes.
Speaker 4:But yeah, I love those You've got to be ready.
Speaker 3:You've got to be on trend and on theme Sneakers, any type of sports, because we're bringing in all the coaches, so it'll be exciting. Hershey's will be there with some great oh.
Speaker 1:I can't even tell you what's happening there, but that'll be good.
Speaker 3:You want to stick around for that?
Speaker 1:Is that post-game? Is that later in the event?
Speaker 3:So be ready for that. We're hoping to have a, you know, birthday party games, so we're going to have a birthday midway.
Speaker 1:Oh my God, pin the Tail on the Donkey hosted by Matt Mars.
Speaker 3:Now think about it for a second. That would be a lot of fun. We're doing a birthday party.
Speaker 1:That's funny that you said that because we're doing pin the tail on the pig. Visionary, right here, as Rob's jumping out of the cake and as I'm doing my slot machine thing we're doing. Pin the tail on the ducky. The B team is going to come out. We're going to come out ready to rock and roll.
Speaker 2:Josh is making a lot of commitments. Yeah, he's going to be doing a lot of editing.
Speaker 1:I feel like I'm trying to do anything to get you guys to say I'm in this year. What do you got on your?
Speaker 2:calendar that weekend I have to ask the cruise director. I always say I'm going to go to everything, and then I get home and Carrie's like we already have this. So I have to ask.
Speaker 1:Carrie, if you're on your calendar early, yeah.
Speaker 2:And that's what I love. We're early enough now to where maybe we can we know?
Speaker 1:Carrie is not watching the podcast so we can't ask her for approval, but I can ask her Just take the card and put it on the fridge.
Speaker 3:I'll text her here, put it on the fridge.
Speaker 2:Put your card on the fridge and at the end, we can still donate the money even if we don't make it.
Speaker 3:Yes, Because it's all about the donations. We can do donations and we are doing We'll take your money. People that can't come to it can still.
Speaker 1:They can still donate online. Either buy a ticket or make a donation. They sure can. So you're committing to a donation right now on the show. Yeah, yeah, wow.
Speaker 3:There we go.
Speaker 1:There's a donate and ticket tab on. Yeah but he's just committed to a donation.
Speaker 3:Oh, yeah, I love it, thank you.
Speaker 1:He didn't say how much though we could kind of get him up to $1,000.
Speaker 2:Every dollar counts. I mean, I had him on the V Team podcast, so I'm ready to have a donation. Yes, that is a big donation. No, I think it's like you said. None of us are everyone that we know everyone. In all of our circles there's someone has cancer. So it's one of those things that you know. I know everything's important, but this is so. It's everywhere, every different kind it's home for everybody, unfortunately.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it's not good.
Speaker 2:So you know, the more funds we can put into trying to find that cure, the better we all will be.
Speaker 3:Amen, I agree. Thank you for that.
Speaker 2:Yes for sure, because I mean I look over there raw of how tan he is, and I'm thinking skin damage.
Speaker 4:He does look good and healthy. He's really tan today, I know.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, we don't want to talk about where he's been.
Speaker 1:He looks too relaxed.
Speaker 2:It's that Eagle Rare. He just runs through my mouth.
Speaker 1:That was a perfect Matt Zinger right on the podcast. Welcome Lisa, you get to see it firsthand. I like that segue, Matt.
Speaker 4:It's like nothing else than that.
Speaker 2:Well, on that note. Rob's like shut her down, shut her down.
Speaker 3:No prevention's key Get your skin checked or bring us back.
Speaker 1:Bring us back, what's the website?
Speaker 3:Okay, wwwsuitsandsneakersarcom. Okay, and all the information's on there.
Speaker 1:And there are tickets available.
Speaker 3:Tickets available, okay, and some sponsorships and tables are still available as well. We're going to have some great swag bags again this year, so that is always fun and that's a really neat. They'll have some great things in it. It's a fun coveted bag.
Speaker 1:I mean, there's a great barbershop that gives free haircuts in the swag bags as well, I know yes. I'm just trying to say it's all coming together.
Speaker 2:Where is donation came from now?
Speaker 1:$5 off.
Speaker 3:Free haircuts. No, he does a full contribution, a free pat.
Speaker 2:I love that. That's nice, that's huge.
Speaker 1:I love it. I mean, we've been working on this event for a long time. It's fun to be there. You get to wear sneakers, there's cool people bouncing around, well, and for you it's like this is your jam.
Speaker 3:He's the reason I got those shoes.
Speaker 2:He took me to the shoe place NWA hype, shout out, he's all about the shoes, and then he shows up with the garbage that he's wearing. I mean, come on.
Speaker 3:They're vintage.
Speaker 1:They're Kobe's man. They're Kobe 8 on. They're vintage. They're Kobe's man. They're Kobe 8's they're.
Speaker 4:Kobe 8's.
Speaker 1:I thought they were cool, everybody's just ragging on them, I got to up my game. I mean I didn't win compared to the Trouts, for the love of God, the Air Trouts, that's funny.
Speaker 3:So, in essence, Lisa, we knew we'd have the coolest shoot today because you were going're gonna vote, but it feels like Matt's gonna be in second place.
Speaker 4:Anonymous voting. Well, I mean, I won the sparkles dangerous whoa Whoa.
Speaker 2:Look at the tarantula.
Speaker 3:Whoa those are serious, those are dangerous yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah, oh, here she won. Yeah, demonstrate the spice.
Speaker 1:I see we can get Bobby a karate kick.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I know right, I could. That's my weapon. Yeah, that's my something.
Speaker 2:I almost feel like you need to have the incline of rocks for people to rush running. You know, you got to go up the.
Speaker 3:That's funny.
Speaker 1:Shout out to rush running. I didn't know you were a big fan of rush running here. Well, rob and I long story short.
Speaker 2:Rob and I, a year or so ago, decided we were going to be pickleball experts Because you know we're kind of past the tennis stage.
Speaker 3:Mm-hmm, I'll cut that workout for you, so we go into.
Speaker 2:Rush running and we're like we're just looking for some, you know, some court shoes or something, and the guy's like.
Speaker 3:He looks at me and Rob and he's like you guys starting playing pickleball.
Speaker 1:We didn't think they were going to be the best players and we were like, yes, I love it.
Speaker 4:So have you been playing pickleball since.
Speaker 1:Oh, we've played four or five times you could wear your custom leather pickleball shoes to the event. Yeah, from Italy, yeah, From Italy.
Speaker 2:There you go. They had some from Italy. He didn't even care what they looked like. He goes. You see, those are from Italy. That's what I'm getting.
Speaker 4:Yeah, yeah yeah, wait, you're serious.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah.1,000. But they're nice.
Speaker 4:They're only $998.
Speaker 1:They're like $125.
Speaker 2:But, they say pickleball on it. Yeah, that's perfect.
Speaker 1:And he's worn them twice.
Speaker 2:They're kind of like their dad shoes. So I, carrie and I, went to Nashville last weekend and I wore my pickleball shoes and she was like did you bring any other shoes? And I was like, these are my pickleball shoes. And she's like did you bring any other shoes? That's funny.
Speaker 3:So you're not going to wear those suits of sneakers?
Speaker 2:Well, she told me just to keep them for the court. She's like you, don't wear those out in the public.
Speaker 3:Those are only for the court. Yeah, we do bring it up.
Speaker 2:The weather's getting nicer now, so it's time to re-engage. Get Josh out there with us.
Speaker 1:Catherine was like how do we bring this back to Suits and Sneakers?
Speaker 4:I can see it no, I love it yeah sorry, it's like we've lost them, we dig.
Speaker 3:The wheels have fallen off the bus. Typically happens All the time. That's funny All right.
Speaker 1:what do you want to leave us with? What do you want everybody to remember and take away? You gave us the website, you gave us the date.
Speaker 3:You told me how to get the food thing right so I'll work on making sure I'm aware of what we're going to be eating down there. Yeah, we're going to have all kinds of great things and surprises this year, but just us. We need everyone there to help us in this fight against cancer and raising money for cancer research. So we're just trying to end cancer as we know it for everybody, dr. Well, I knew what I was gonna ask, because it is a bourbon tasting event at the Sazerac bar.
Speaker 1:Do you know what you're gonna be having to drink over there yet? Have you figured out what bourbons are gonna be on the menu? Because?
Speaker 4:that may sway Matt. I have not kind of like my outfit.
Speaker 1:We're going to put you on the spot, though. It'll be good, no matter what. There may be a blends right, there will definitely be some blends.
Speaker 4:There will definitely be some Eagle Rare Weller. We'll definitely have some Weller.
Speaker 1:And so if you buy a ticket, at what price do you get to have some?
Speaker 4:of these. We're switching some things up, sorry.
Speaker 3:Share about that, what we're doing for the whiskey pool yes, and the glass, yes.
Speaker 4:So last year, the way that we did it is, there was the Buffalo Trace Bourbon Bar where you could buy into it and you would get a glass and you would get kind of unlimited bourbon throughout the evening.
Speaker 1:Sorry one more time Unlimited bourbon.
Speaker 3:Yes, unlimited, unlimited, un unlimited, unlimited, highly allocated bourbon you can't get it at the main bar, only at the Buffalo.
Speaker 1:Tracy, as soon as I walked in, I bought my glass right away yeah, you have to go there first first spot and you take it home with you. Yes, I didn't even care about the glass. I was like unlimited bourbon. I was like Homer Simpson unlimited bourbon.
Speaker 4:I'm in.
Speaker 1:I'm in let's go, I, I love it.
Speaker 4:I'm excited. So this year we're going to up the game on that. So we're going to do a whiskey poll and you still get the glass and all of that. So you're going to come in by decided on how much.
Speaker 3:It was $100. $100. You're going to get any type of. You're going to get a surprise bottle of bourbon, yep, yep, and the glass unlimited all night. Wait, wait, wait, all right.
Speaker 1:Right, so I get $100 for this, I get unlimited allocated bourbon, and then I'm going to go home with my own bottle of something. Yes, correct.
Speaker 2:Ooh.
Speaker 3:Correct. You better change your plans, yeah, and then root beer floats when the dance party starts. Yes and you have the adult root beer floats With Buffalo Trace bourbon cream, Ice cream, Freddy's root beer and ice cream Are we putting ice cream in it, if you want it.
Speaker 1:So why wouldn't somebody who listens to this podcast, who's a bourbon fan, I mean? I don't know why you wouldn't go now If you don't like sneakers and you don't like suits and you don't like being charitable, which most people are?
Speaker 2:you get to drink allocated bourbon. It's a no-brainer, it is yeah. And all of us guys complain that we have to get dressed up, this one we get to wear sneakers.
Speaker 3:It's perfect.
Speaker 4:There's a lot of great people there. Women feel the same no heels. No heels needed.
Speaker 3:Everyone's happy because they're not hurting. It's a great time.
Speaker 1:Why don't we call Carrie on the podcast live right now and get her permission to come?
Speaker 2:Well, I would, but it's a long story. We had a 12-foot U-Haul. I went to pick it up and it was broken. All they had was a 26-footer.
Speaker 1:She's driving a 26-footer. Yeah, probably not the time to call her.
Speaker 2:We don't call her. No, I'm pretty sure we may need counseling after this. Hopefully you checked the tires. Oh yeah, we did.
Speaker 1:Well, you will have an opportunity to come to the event.
Speaker 2:You may be single, you may be looking for a date to the event.
Speaker 3:We can do that calendar just free up. He's got mediation on.
Speaker 4:Friday divorce on Monday, totally available, oh man.
Speaker 2:I think our viewership just went up.
Speaker 1:Mark Wahlberg is single again.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. Oh gosh, this isberg is single again. Yeah, yeah, it's crazy.
Speaker 3:This is becoming a Bravo episode. It is, it is Reality.
Speaker 1:Well, thank you for coming in. I will be there. I can't speak for these two, but we'll do everything we can to get them there.
Speaker 2:We'll try to make it happen. If we're in town, we'll be there. We'd love that. Well, I remember last year we were out of town.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:We had something we were going to Again for 2026.
Speaker 1:We need to get his calendar first, his calendar second and plan around it. It may be like a Tuesday in June but we'll have to do the event when they're here.
Speaker 2:Just priorities, he plans his every year on the date and then the event we usually go to actually moved to that date. This year but we're going to be there and we're going to try to come to this one.
Speaker 1:It'll be fun it's always so much fun going not only for the event, but you see so many people that you don't you know we don't get a chance to see I mean we may need to have a B-team booth so people can come over and ask for autographs and hang out with us.
Speaker 2:You never know.
Speaker 1:I mean, what a draw that would be God he wishes a lot Pay $50 and you get their autographs.
Speaker 3:$50, you get a photo and an autograph.
Speaker 4:Right Like what a charitable thing.
Speaker 1:And a chance to be you know who will.
Speaker 3:That's it. Not many people Shout out to Emily. Emily's your number one cheerleader.
Speaker 2:That's it. We know Carrie won't be in it. No, or Ange?
Speaker 1:No, that won't be a big draw. Save your space for something that will add more value, okay.
Speaker 3:We will, but it'll be fun.
Speaker 1:Thank you for coming in.
Speaker 3:Thanks for having us. We love you guys. Lisa, great to have she's definitely the golden guest here with the amazing alcohol.
